Spring 2019 Graduation

The Application

Graduation applications are due February 15 and must be completed online via MyCharleston

  • Log in to MyCharleston
  • Click on the Academic Services tab
  • Click on the Banner Self Service Link
  • Click on 'Student' and then 'Student Records'
  • Click on 'Apply to Graduate'
  • NOTE: You must complete the Graduation Ceremony Drug and Alcohol Policy Acknowledgement form before you can submit your graduation application. It can be found in MyCharleston on the My Forms tab.

After you submit your application, your eBill account will show a graduation application fee of $25 for each degree and/or certificate you plan to earn.

Students who miss the deadline will have to pay an additional $25 (for a total of $50) and they must apply in person at the Graduate School office.

In order to be eligible for spring graduation, you must be enrolled in at least one credit hour during the spring term. Spring graduates receive diplomas and/or certificates with a graduation date of May 10, 2019.

The Ceremony

May 10, 2019 - 4pm, Cistern Yard

2:30: Cistern Yard opens for seating.  Graduating students should enter Cougar Mall via the crosswalk on St. Philips street across from the Simmons Center for the Arts or the crosswalk on Coming Street across from the Higdon Student Leadership Center.  The gates to Cougar Mall on Calhoun street will be locked.
Graduate students should arrive and check-in on the 3rd floor of the Robert Scott Small building - 23 on any campus map.
Commencement ceremony begins 

The ceremony is expected to last 2 1/2 hours.

     Rehearsal: Wednesday, May 8, 4-5pm Cistern Yard - MANDATORY
Graduating students will do a run-through of the lining up, ceremony processional, seating and walking across the stage.

The College of Charleston has implemented a clear bag policy.  Please review the policy and protocol for approved and prohibited items on the bag check page.

Students graduating in the summer may request permission to participate in the spring ceremony by contacting the Graduate School by March 15.


Each graduate student is eligible to receive 4 tickets.  Tickets are required for all family and guests attending the ceremony.  Tickets will distributed electronically to participants.  The ticket portal will open on Thursday, April 11 at noon and close on Thursday, May 9 at noon.  Tickets cannot be claimed once the portal closes.

To claim tickets, login to MyCharleston > Academic Services tab > Commencement Ticket channel.

Every guest who enters the Cistern Yard regardless of age will be required to have a ticket for the Friday ceremony.  Those who have mobility issues, weather sensitivity, or young children are encouraged to use the satellite viewing locations where you can enjoy air conditioning and watch a close-caption live-stream of the ceremony.  Satellite locations do not require a ticket.  

Looking for an extra ticket?  Be one of the first 300 students to claim your tickets and you will able to request one extra in the ticket portal.

Garage parking may be available for $5.00 per vehicle at the George Street, St. Philip Street, and Wentworth Street parking garages. Please see the orange blocks labeled "GG," "PG," and "WG" on the College of Charleston parking map. The $5.00 rate is only available to vehicles that enter and exit these garages on May 10 for Spring Commencement.

Handicap accessible parking is available in any parking garage staffed with a cashier or at any city meter, and is free of charge to persons with valid state-issued handicap placards. Accessible parking is available to visitors on campus in marked handicap accessible spaces after 4pm Monday through Friday, and all day on Saturday and Sunday. A state-issued handicapped placard must be properly displayed on any vehicle parked in an accessible parking space during these times.

Alcohol and Tobacco Policy

The College of Charleston observes a strict no-alcohol or other drugs policy prior to and during the commencement ceremonies. Ceremony participants, graduation candidates and guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages or other drugs onto the premises or consuming alcoholic beverages during the ceremonies. Any person determined by College personnel to be impaired will be removed from the premises and prohibited from participating in the ceremony.

Use of all tobacco products is prohibited in all College-owned or leased buildings; in all buildings on College-owned or leased land; on all College-owned or leased property, including outdoor seating areas; and in all College-owned, leased, and rented vehicles. Use of tobacco products is prohibited in all those places here identified, including but not limited to, offices (including private offices), classrooms, laboratories, stairwells, elevators, restrooms, hallways, porches and piazzas, rooftops, indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, residence halls and historic properties, shuttle buses, shuttle bus stops, parking structures and parking areas on College-owned or College-leased property, sidewalks on College-owned or College-leased property, lobbies and waiting areas, outdoor benches, green spaces on campus, and other common areas.
